Is it true that standard poodles are really mean?

I've researched the breed a little, I know they are hunting dogs, but nothing in the literature suggests they are mean. I've been asked to foster one, but friends insist poodles are pure evil. I wanna give the dog a chance. Any thoughts? Is it true that standard poodles are really mean?
Ur friends are quite wrong -

it is of course *possible* for an individual dog of any breed/mix to be nasty, but Std Poodles are typically playful, friendly + lovely dogs.

Poodles were RETRIEVERS -

==================================

not =hunters= in the sense of being predatory or chasing small-animals to kill them; they were bred for water-retrieval of ducks,

not to chase-down rabbits + kill;em, like Greyhounds,

or pursue vermin + snap their necks/spines, like terrierists,

or bring big-game to bay like Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

when U foster any dog, always ask the org/agency if the dog

has any behavioral issues; reactivity, fears, triggers, pain,

arthritis or other chronic problems, etc.

unless this particular Poodle has issues, the dog should be fine -

maybe un-trained or poor manners, but not mean at all. Is it true that standard poodles are really mean?
They are not....poodles get a bad rap because toy poodles and minature poodle have owners who don't think they need exercise or training and think its cute when fluffy barks

But I have a minature poodle (I have always had poodles all sizes) and they have have always been the most well behaved gentleist breed I have ever known...They are great and oh my current poodle just loves kids.

He is so sweet

Give the dog a chance prove your friends wrong

(I wanted to add: I've only known one Standard poodle that has had any temperment issues and that is because his owners never socialized him and never took him on walks...he lived inside but their idea of exercizing him was to send him to the back yard to play.....other than that I haven't met a mean poodle)
All I have to say is, don't tell my 4 standard poodles that they're supposed to be mean, because if that's the case, they haven't gotten that memo!

My 4 poodles (2 of which are intact males) are easy going, and some of the friendliest dogs. If they dog is well socialized, there should be no issues. One of my intact male poodles is in an agility class with 2 other intact male dogs, and an intact female dog that is allowed to attend class while in heat. They all get along great!
My grandparents had 2 of them. They are not mean, just very protective of boundaries. They are also very smart and can be a bit neurotic. Basically, I like them. Don't trust the dog to be able to use an electronic collar though. We had a neighbor once who had a standard poodle who would sit close to the border, and wind her battery down without getting shocked, then cross over.
No way! They are friendly, smart dogs. In fact, they are making a mark as guide dogs for the blind.

Your friends must be thinking about ill tempered, unsocialized mini poodles, and even they are decent dogs if properly trained and socialized.
Yes, foster them first so you can get a good idea about if you would like this dog roaming around your house. Many young ones are very hyper, but if you foster an older one it may tend to be more calm. I hope this information helps you!
It is not true. Standard poodles are very smart. They are way smarter than the smaller ones. A dog might get bad habits from owners, but dogs are not naturally bad tempered.
No dog is born to ';be mean'; unless he/she has been bred to such ';purpose';. By no means Poodles are ';mean'; dogs.

Your friends know dick.
I love standard poodles! I have never seen a mean. From what I have read they have a temperament like a labrador.
No, they aren't evil. Standard Poodles can be very nice dogs and are not noted for aggression of any kind. I've never met a mean one yet!
No dogs are pure evil, give the dog a chance, it may just be the best thing you ever do

:)
No they aren't. They are fun loving dogs.
No dog is pure evil. I had 3 standard poodles growing up and they were never mean. Give this dog a chance
