What does it mean to be true to oneself?

Sir Richard Branson once famously said in a Samsonite ad that ';To me, business isn’t about wearing suits or pleasing stockholders. It’s about being true to yourself, your ideas, and focusing on the essentials.”.

What exactly does it mean to be true to yourself? Can anyone make me understand this with an example. What does it mean to be true to oneself?
there are many crossroads in life grasshopper.

sometimes what you want is not what you know is right in your heart. so you must chose return the bag of money, or keep it amd have an easier life .

another is [-- if you love another person you should want them to be happy, even if its not with you. cjhsWhat does it mean to be true to oneself?
It just means to stick by your morals and your expectations of yourself. For example, if some kids in junior high are experimenting with alcohol or pot and you had previously swore to yourself you would never get involved with that, then to remain true to yourself, you still stay away from the stuff, even though your friends are doing it, and encouraging you to do it. Staying true to yourself means that no matter what happens, you don't let anyone talk you into doing something you don't want to do/don't believe in.
It means not letting outside forces/distractions change what you believe to be the best answer. He's saying it's not important to wear suits and please stockholders to make others happy and do what's expected, but the important part is letting your ideas shine and not get sidetracked in the process.
Unto thine own self be true.It follows then as night does follow day, thou canst not then be false to any other man.

Polonius, Hamlet, Shakespeare.
fooling yourself.
putting your self first and taking care of your self first
When you do not compromise your ideas of what is right and proper...just to make a dollar or get ahead...
