What does true patriotism mean to you?

...i always go to mcdonalds for my hamburger and fries...

idu! What does true patriotism mean to you?
Before asking about true patriotism, you might consider digging a little deeper into the meaning, or truth, about patriotism.

Patriotism is akin to tribalism which is akin to nationalism which implies putting your group first.

Patriotism is that chill you get when you hear a marching band or watch an air show. This is the reptile brain kicking in. Reptile brain says to close ranks and protect your group.

So the question you ask may not have a real answer because it may not make sense to try to define patriotism as a good thing as you are trying to do.What does true patriotism mean to you?
';Washington: The Indispensable Man,'; J. T. Flexner, and ';The Life of Thomas More,'; Peter Ackroyd, give a good sense of it.

True patriotism may mean supporting one's nation as the lesser of evils.

However, true patriotism may mean pointing to one's nation's erring, e.g. if one's nation's leadership is claiming wmd evidence, but not producing it for Senatorial ';advise and consent.';
To me, true patriotism to me means standing up for your country, no matter if there's no one on your side. If you strongly agree with something, then you should put your all into it. If you let others sway you into what they believe, then that's not showing true love for your country. Deep compassion and a strong uphold on a country's beliefs and customs, and caring enough about it to say ';I love this country'; shows true patriotism. I hope this helped! Vote best answer!
true patriotism to me is to be not patriotic ^^

cuz a country is nothing, it cant be finally judged as ';good'; or ';bad';.

countries are abstract and constist of many different aspects.

you cant count the (alleged) plus %26amp; minus points and see which is more.

what is a country?

its just one form of organizing people to live together for their own benefit.

every nation tries to organize itself in the way its best for all its citizens.

so whats a country about? people.

if you care about people instead of countries it should concern all people in the same way, and by them doing the same it does pay off for all of us.

one might say that the effect of it were the same as when everyone is just classicaly a patriot to his own country, but with my method theres at least the major advantage to have a huge potencial of being manipulated through your patriotism removed!

patriotism is commonly said to be loving your country.

i do love my country. but in any terms beyond the special emotional ties to my ';home';, i love all other countries as well.

i would never judge my own country differently to other ones on the same issue.

after that, if you feel you like your country best in terms of taste, well thats up to you. but i cant even go that far, since one can never ever experience all places of the world, yet to the evenly shared amount of time which would be the only way to figure out which place is really best for you. you will never know ^^
Patriotism has to have some legitimacy behind it.

The wrong idea of patriotism got the Nation into an unnecessary war. So thanks for asking the question... since we have to be careful to be responsible with this term and not to use the flag as a senseless war banner.
When the world trade center was destroyed, my neighbors bought a 40 ft by 30 ft flag to cover their front lawn so people wouldn't kill them for being islamic. That's when I took all my flags down, and put a sign on my car saying that until innocent islamic people were not afraid for their lives in America, I would not fly my flags. I am still waiting.

THAT is patriotism!
Nothing. There is no rationale behind it. It creates an artificial and unnecessary divide between groups of people. It is non sense, because people living in the same country or sharing the same origins can have totally different viewpoints and approaches.
it means that you value one cultures symbol's more than any other

that culture may be the one inhabiting the same ground you live on or may be one that you came from

you believe that it's symbols and ideology hold the highest value and you would kill or die to ensure its continuation
the word patriotism is a euphimism for tribalism. not worth discussing.
Agree to disagree with dignity and respect.

Shouting at someone is not a debate.
If I had nine lives to live, I would sacrifice each one in defence of Israel.
