The North and South nodes of the moon are fixed positions relative to the moon's orbit around earth. They are very slow moving in a chart, and their representations or symbolism is still somewhat unclear, although it is most commonly accepted that the south node has to do with past karmic influences (and possibly even past lives, according to some) while the north node has to do with future or mounting imprints on a native's self ideals. For instance someone with an Aries true node will spend their lives slowly learning the advantages of being aryan in their interchanges with the world.
