True Freshman- The player made the roster during his first year at the college, coming out of high school (as opposed to being a red shirt freshman, meaning you made the team but don't suit up/play).

Fifth Year Senior- A senior who has been granted an extra year of eligibility for a specific reason.

Open Field Tackle- When someone is tackled in the open field (yards passed the line of scrimmage where no one else is around).

There is no age limit, but a year limit. You have a limit of four years of play, but as stated above, you may be granted a fifth year of eligibility.

Technically speaking, you can play football at 28 years old as long as you are eligible.

The backside guard is the guard (one of the interior offensive linemen) on the opposite side of the play. If the play goes to the right, then the Right Guard is the play side guard, while the Left Guard is the backside. If the play goes to the left, then the Left Guard is the play side guard, while the Right Guard is the backside guard.What's a true frenchman mean in college football?
';True Freshman'; - a person in his first year of college, when he is still ';fresh.';

';True'; freshman is used to distinguish from a ';Red Shirt'; freshman. A person is a ';Red Shirt'; freshman if they are in their second year of college - but in their first year of playing. When a person starts a college playing career, they are allowed four years of playing - but in a five year period. They may sit out one year (a so-called Red Shirt year). They practice with the team, and attend classes - but do not dress for games. Players are sometimes red-shirted in order to grow and mature, or to save a player until another player graduates - or any other reason a team has.

A fifth year senior is someone who was redshirted at some time during their career - but are now in their fourth year of playing elligibility.

An ';open field tackle.';

An ';open field'; tackle'; is when a player takes down a player in the ';open field'; - which is generally loosely taken to mean away from other players - when players are more or less up to full speed. This is used to distinguish from other tackles that take place in the mosh pit of the line or other circumstances. It is thought to be more difficult to bring someone down alone, or to juke or move quickly to grab someone in the open field.

College players can play at any age - but have five years to play after they start school (or is it five years to play after they start playing?). A Div. III school had a 60 year old player recently. If their major takes 10 years to graduate - their playing days will be over - and their scholarship (if they are on scholarship) will expire before they finish school. I don't know if there are rules that permit skipping several years out of school and then return - using up their remaining years of elligibility. I know that BYU in particular has alot of older players because alot of them are mormons who take two years off to do a ';mission.'; I don't remember whether these people can play a year or two - take off two years - and then return for two more years of elligibility - or whether they have to take their two years off before they play.
Haha, it's true FRESHMAN not frenchman. That means it is the individual's first year in college, playing college sports.

An open field tackle is a tackle in the open field, as in past the main group of linemen that clash together at every play.

I don't think there is an age limit to play college football, there was a Defensive Back for the University of South Carolina a few years ago that was almost 30. You get four years to play college sports, 5 if you are red-shirted for any reason like due to an injury, and in some rare cases 6 years if you appeal to the NCAA for an extra year. As long as a football player doesn't hire an agent and is within the time allotted by the NCAA to play, he is still eligible to play. The NCAA Clearing House regulates all NCAA athletes and their statuses as players.

A backside guard is the offensive lineman beside the center that is away from the action of the play. So if the play is a run to the right, the Left Guard would be the backside guard. If the play was to the left, the right guard would be the backside guard.
